KYSFMA Vendor Spotlight-Travis Feltner J&K Turf
1. How did you get started in the turf or sports field industry?
I’ve been working (cutting grass, game prep, etc) since college- and I’ve been coaching HS baseball my entire adult life- always doing daily maintenance and improvement projects on our baseball field. I’ve always found great satisfaction in maintaining a well manicured field.
2. What problem do you most enjoy helping your customers solve?
Since I’ve been running my own business and have several clients with Bermuda grass fields- overcoming and repairing severely damaged fields from winter has been pretty awesome watching a field progress to acceptable standard during the summer months
3. What makes your approach or perspective unique in this industry?
I’ve spent almost 30 years coaching, as well as being a HS athletic director. Most of my clients are HS fields so I have a perspective of running a business but also being the my clients shoes, so I feel this has really helped me develop some healthy relationships
4. What are you listening to right now? (music, podcast, audiobook).
Typically I enjoy listening to Sermon audio messages while working as well as a variety of music.
5. Fun fact about you (non-work related encouraged):
Serving God is my highest priority and next is my family. God has Blessed my family beyond measure. We are a sports family and my wife and I have had the opportunity to follow both of our kids beyond HS and enjoy their careers. My son Jackson is a professional baseball player (currently plays for the Lexington Legends) and my daughter Kensley is in her Junior season playing basketball for Morehead State University.
6. Why do you choose to support KYSFMA?
I had the opportunity to meet with Marcus Elswick last fall and receive guidance on synthetic turf maintenance as I was expanding my business scope of work. Honestly I was blown away at his willingness to help/advise a total stranger with no connections. Marcus immediately promoted KYSFMA to me and it was a no brainer.
