KYSFMA Vendor Spotlight Meet: JC Field FieldTurf

Title / Role: Regional Sales Manager - Kentucky & Tennessee

National Baseball & Softball Development Manager

1. How did you get started in the turf or sports field industry?

I was a former college baseball coach, coaching 9 years at the DI level and was a FieldTurf customer. I created a great relationship with them as I built a baseball field with FieldTurf. FieldTurf saw an opportunity to grow their staff, as well as work with myself to redevelop our Baseball & Softball specific systems.

2. What led you to a career in sales?

Primarily, I wanted to have a little more career stability and found it as a great industry to make a great impact when it comes to educating about the critical details that go into synthetic turf surfacing, providing a higher level of safety, durability and performance for synthetic surfaces.

3. What do you enjoy most about working with sports field managers?

It is about the great relationships with sports field managers. That is what I enjoy the most about my job. I am lucky enough to work for a great company and love to educate about critical details that go into these fields, as well as taking care of my customers throughout the life of their fields.

4. What problem do you most enjoy helping your customers solve?

My goal is always to find the best turf system that fits within their budget. The educational side I think is paramount to selecting a surface they can trust with proven safety and durability research. Additionally, I enjoy working with them to help their field last as long as possible and perform to it's highest capabilities through educating in terms of maintenance of their synthetic turf fields.

5. What makes your approach or perspective unique in this industry?

I have been on the customer's side of the table, as I was looking to build a synthetic turf field while I coached. With that perspective in mind, I wanted to be educated about synthetic turf and strive to do so with our customers, instead of a sales/marketing perspective. I feel fortunate to work for the industry leader in synthetic turf, as FieldTurf invented the high pile heavy weight infilled system 20+ years ago. Therefore, I take more of an educational approach through proven safety and durability to educate our customers on differences in systems. Additionally, with my baseball playing/coaching background, the details matter, where I can discuss many of those details to provide the best surface possible with ease of maintenance.

6. Favorite food?

Mexican - Cheese Enchiladas

7. What are you listening to right now? (music, podcast, audiobook)

Music: Morgan Wallen Podcast: Joe Rogan

8. Fun fact about you:

I am an avid boater and also enjoy slalom waterskiing.

9. Why do you choose to support KYSFMA?

It is a great organization that connects great people in our industry throughout the state of Kentucky. I look forward to developing relationships to be trusted throughout the state as a great resource to educate about synthetic turf systems and maintenance.

10. Pro tip for turf or field managers:

Pay attention to details. Look for proof in terms of safety and durability research. Is it 3rd party? Is it medically and scientifically peer reviewed? Has it been published? Make sure you see the difference between marketing and truly proven research to select the best surfaces possible. Lean on your reps and main points of contact for advice and direction with proper maintenance.
