Turf Committees Structure and Purpose

Mission Statement

The Kentucky Sports Fields Management Association (KYSFMA) is dedicated to advancing the professionalism, knowledge, and sustainability of sports turf management across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Through education, collaboration, and community engagement, KYSFMA supports safe, high-quality playing surfaces for athletes of all levels while promoting responsible environmental stewardship and professional growth for field managers statewide.

1. Outreach Committee

Purpose:

• Build and strengthen relationships with local schools, parks departments, and athletic organizations.

• Promote KYSFMA programs, events, and membership opportunities.

• Coordinate community engagement activities and volunteer initiatives.

• Serve as liaison between KYSFMA and external partners to expand organizational reach.

Initial Goals:

• Develop a contact database of regional sports field managers and stakeholders.

• Plan one outreach event or partnership,

2. Marketing Committee

Purpose:

• Oversee all public relations, branding, and promotional initiatives for KYSFMA.

• Manage website updates, newsletters, and social media communications.

• Create marketing materials for conferences, workshops, and scholarship programs.

• Collaborate with the Outreach and Education Committees to maintain consistent messaging and member engagement.

Initial Goals:

• Launch a quarterly digital newsletter.

• Grow social media following by 25% over the next year.

3. Education Committee

Purpose:

• Plan and host educational workshops, certification sessions, and field days.

• Develop and maintain resources for best practices in turf management, safety, and sustainability.

• Foster partnerships with universities, vendors, and industry experts to enhance professional development.

• Support member certification and continuing education efforts.

Initial Goals:

• Schedule two statewide training sessions per year.

• Find speakers for upcoming events.

4. Scholarship Committee

Purpose:

• Administer KYSFMA’s scholarship and grant programs for students pursuing turfgrass science or related disciplines.

• Establish eligibility requirements and selection criteria.

• Coordinate fundraising efforts and donor outreach.

• Recognize scholarship recipients publicly at annual events.

Initial Goals:

• Finalize scholarship application and launch by Spring 2026.
